If you destroy nature, you destroy the economy

I am delighted to share this study, « If You Destroy Nature, You Destroy the Economy, » commissioned by the 2050Now initiative. This report stems from real-world insights gathered from 2050Now’s six founding companies, spanning diverse sectors. It underscores the urgent reality: we are living in an overexploited world, facing the sixth mass extinction driven by human activity. By referencing key frameworks like IPBES reports, Planetary Boundaries, and the WWF’s alarming findings, the study highlights how biodiversity loss is intertwined with climate change, posing strategic risks to economies while offering opportunities for innovation and regeneration.

The study explores why businesses must act—addressing risks, reframing mindsets, and seizing sustainable transformations—and provides actionable strategies, from internal organization and supply chain innovations to external collaborations and the role of finance. It also examines the evolving global and European context, from the Kunming-Montreal Framework to emerging legal accountability.

In an era where nature’s degradation threatens our very future, this work calls for humility, ethics, and collective effort. I hope it inspires leaders, policymakers, and citizens to prioritize nature’s preservation as essential to economic resilience.
